House of Traditions

Houses
Descriere

It is located in the village of Sânpetru, Sântămăria Orlea commune, in the Community Center. The tourists learn the story of a multicultural community here. Romanians, Hungarians and Italians have been able to live in harmony and make effective use of the resources available. All exhibits have been donated by the local community and consist of objects that attempt a reconstruction of the daily life of the village in the past.

The central topic of the exhibition is the ”wool thread story” which brings attention to the shepherding, the most important trade of the time. Regularly, the Sântămăria Orlea Women Association organizes events and workshops to promote local traditions. The most successful workshop is that of wool dyeing with natural color extracts from plants.

The House of Traditions, as well as the Sântămăria Orlea Women Association, are the result of an unique project at national level, awarded by the Ministry of Culture with the ”Horia Bernea” award in 2006 for intangible heritage. Through the project Sântămăria Orlea-European self-portrait, a local community, valued as an important entity for the local cultural and historical heritage, built and brought its self-portrait to the public attention as a topic of local national debate in defining local identity.

The visiting area was set-up in 2015 by the National University of Arts and is managed by the Sântămăria Orlea Women Association, the Village Hall and the Secondary school, in partnership with the Geopark.
